My 20% time project has run aground as of late. I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with my new language development, especially as the language gets increasingly complex. While balancing a full-time job and grad school, it is not easy to find lengthy amounts of time to work on my German. The problem that I run in to is consistency. I can only manage 15-20 minute sessions, which is not enough time for me to learn certain aspects of a language and retain it moving forward.
I keep thinking about how free I will become once mid-May rolls around, but until then finding time for this German learning module will be tough to come by. So, to maintain my desire to learn more about German language in culture, I propose a new twist to my 20% time project. The goal of these projects is to learn and then display said learning to our online professional learning networks. Rather than trying to tackle the language head on, I think that I may want to dive in to simply learning more about the German history and culture.
I leave to you, my dear readers, to help me decide how I should go about this. Unless I hear alternate suggestions, I was thinking about devoting each week of my project to learning about a different aspect of German culture. To name a few examples: food, music, history, government, economy, etc. Of course, I would love to hear from anyone else with feedback of the direction I could take my project.
This is not to say I am giving up learning the language. I am going to keep trying my best to access Duolingo as frequently as possible. But I am at an impasse and would love to hear your comments!
